Awakening to Authority

Check out the story of someone meeting another person through what seems like a random act of fate, only to have their life turned upside down. They wake up to a completely different way of being. Suddenly, they move and think differently. They begin to see things that have always been there but were invisible to the naked eye. Their senses heighten, their awareness deepens, and they find themselves craving more, even amidst the supposed upheaval in their life. Things seem to be getting better, yet deep inside, there’s something waiting for its moment to shine through the shattered pieces of mirrors that have long been ignored.

This person starts to unlock parts of themselves that were once dormant, now coming online. Eventually, they decide to follow the call, to shed their old skin and embrace something new. They've made space, and now there’s room for more. They allow their deepest, darkest secrets to reveal how they arrived at this point. It’s a process that follows them wherever they go, and if they pay attention, it will present itself as an unspoken truth.

Imagine waking up to a part of yourself that’s been itching to break free from the depths of your soul. It tells you its name is Authority. It’s been waiting for you to face it. You’ve avoided it for so long, but now it’s here, and there’s nothing you can do about it. You try to run and hide, but it watches as you cowardly take cover, as if it can’t see right through you. But the truth is, it is you. Eventually, you grow tired of running and decide to give up. And in that moment, you have a choice: face it or bury it again.

Well, my friends, I decided to stand up, despite feeling tired, defeated, and just plain worn out. There it was—Authority, shaking its head with complete admiration. I couldn’t believe it. For most of my life, I thought I was running away from Authority, like a rebel shaking a fist at the injustice of things. I thought someone in Authority—whether given at birth or instilled through doctrines beyond my control—held power over me. But in that sweet moment of going within, Authority showed me how I had been using it all along. (The law of "As within, so without" applies here.)

You see, deep down, Authority was never in the background. It was always at the forefront, running the show. I had let it play a supporting role, like an actress in the background, when it had always been the lead. But it had been disguised as "Unworthy" and its trusted sidekick, "Victim." And I had embraced these roles, using Authority to make them real.

Now, with a deeper understanding that things are not always as they seem, I take the time to sit with Authority and allow it to take its rightful place in my heart.

That which you seek, seeks you in truth. But it’s not from the thinking mind—it’s from a place of Grace. (Funny, the name Annette is associated with Grace.)
